Ασπροπόταμος
Aspropotamos area is located at the northwest of the prefecture of Trikala. The prefecture of Trikala is located at the northwest part of Thessaly District in central Greece.
It is the birthplace of Aspropotamos (Acheloos) river the second longest in Greece. Acheloos is known since antiquity as one of the most important rivers in Greece. It was worshiped as a god and was the father of the Sirens and Nymphs. Ancient people worshiped him in order to calm his mighty waters.
Villages 'lost' in the forests of pine and beech trees, they retain their natural beauty and many aspects of traditional living. They offer opportunities for relaxation, mountain and river sports as well as contact with the cherished traditions.

The history of Αspropotamos,
is the history of its people: the Greek Vlachs.
The Vlachs, who speak a Latin-based language, are one of the last remnants of a people who preserve a wholly pastoral lifestyle.
The Aspropotamos area is composed of 20 villages and settlements. The area owes its beauty to the high mountains, with the highest being Mt Kakarditsa (2429m.), Mt Lakmos (2295 m.), Mt Trigia (2204m.) and the rich variety of plants and trees, the mighty waters of Aspropotamos river and the unforgettable fresh spring water.

Aspropotamos (Greek: Ασπροπόταμος meaning the white river) is a mountain area in the Trikala Prefecture, Greece. Population mainly Vlach/Aromanian Greeks. The community is named after the Aspropotamos River that flows in the municipality and is a tributary of the Acheloos. Aspropotamos is located west-northwest of Trikala northeast of Arta and east of Ioannina, in the westernmost part of Trikala Prefecture.
