In Greece, during elevzinski celebrations worshipers of Demeter and Persephone runs around their fields in all directions with lighted torches in their hands, clearing fields of fire of its bad influences of hostile spirits. In the Greek cities of these ceremonies took the nature of religious games. Especially solemnly attaching torch ceremony in Athens, where in honor of Hephaestus and Prometheus arranged running with the torch, and the winner is the first they came up with not extinguished torch.
