"La fanciulla del West" takes us right into the middle of that adventurous period when the discovery of gold lured people from all over the world to California. At the center of gold-digging society is the barmaid Minnie, who instructs the hordes in the Bible and knows how to control and keep them at a distance. When she loses her heart to Dick, Sheriff Rance, who also has his eye on Minnie, is taken aback. He can prove that Johnson is the bandit Ramerrez. When hit by a bullet is Ramerrez, Minnie fears for his life. In the hope of saving him, she plays poker with Sheriff Rance. Although she wins by cheating down, she can not protect Ramerrez from being hunted. In the end, she saves him from the gallows at the last minute and goes off to build a new life elsewhere.
