Daniya Ozma
Описание: Daniya Ozma is a singer-songwriter and a producer from Almaty, Kazakhstan. She’s currently majoring in Music Business and Electronic production and design at Berklee College of Music in Boston, MA.
Her first experience with music occurred when she wasn’t even born yet. Daniya’s mom used to listen to music a lot when she was pregnant, and her friends used to ask her why is she listening to music so loud all the time, and she used to answer that she wants her child to be a musician.
Music became the most important part of Daniya’s life. When she was only three years old she used to listen to Michael Jackson and dance to his music while pretending that she was performing on the stage with him. Daniya’s first instrument was classical piano since she was five. She also started singing at the age of eight.
As she grew older her musical taste was growing as well. At the age of thirteen she used to listen a lot to old school rock music because her dad who loves old school rock inspired her. She even had her own rock band called “BrightSide” where she was a lead singer. Their biggest success was winning the first prize in the «Battle of the Bands» in Almaty, Kazakhstan. After awhile of being in rock music, she started singing and playing Motown, soul, neo-soul and RnB music.
Her journey into electronic music began when she was fifteen. That time of her life she was busy and inspired making, managing and organizing Tribute to Michael Jackson charity concert. The whole concert was done by herself and it took her six month of rehearsals and preparations for the show including writing out the scenario for the show, singing all of the MJ’s songs, learning the choreography from MJ’s videos, lights and costumes and the most interesting part was that while she was creating all of that she needed to make instrumentals for the songs and for the dances at her show but at that time she was only a graduate of a musical school where her principle instruments were classical piano and voice and she didn’t know how to work on programs like Logic, Reason or Cubase, so she went to her parent's friends who were producers, and she spent all of the evenings until the show learning and looking how they were creating the instrumentals for her show using Cubase and that was the first time she was introduced to the process of the production.Here is the link to the short version of her concert: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=t0_E5rRQqtE
That time of her life she has discovered to herself electronic music such as ambient, house, deep house, dubstep and etc. She listened to artists like Daft Punk, French House music, Deadmau5, Cascade, Late Night Alumni, Skrillex, Flying Lotus and many more. Daniya started being interested in composing electronic music, and she thought that she should do something that will come out from her soul. So she started listening to her national music, which is Kazakh music. She learned how to play Kazakh instrument called “Dombra”, which is made out of wood and has only two strings. In addition she decided to learn about the history of Kazakh music. Along with that she has discovered psybient genre in electronic music through listening to Shpongle and Entheogenic. Psybient was exactly what she was looking for, it was ambient, trance, dub, downtempo kind of music and it also included traditional instruments and elements of native and meditative singing. Shpongle is an English psydient project that was formed in 1996 by Simon Posford and Raja Ram. Their musical style is a combination of world music and electronic ambient music. Both Sphongle and Entheogenic made a huge influence on what she wants to compose and what she likes and that inspired her to try to mix Kazakh native instruments with dubstep and electronic dance music.
