Russia is geographically and politically present in the Asia-Pacific Region (APR), but its integrational links with the region is extremely weak. The share of the region accounts for only 20% country's trade. The political, social and cultural ties with Asia-Pacific countries are at the lowest level. This does not match the capabilities of Russia in the development of regional links and does not contribute to the objectives of strengthening economic, political and cultural influence in the world. Russia has some interesting offers for the countries in the Asia-Pacific region- this is a rich source of raw materials, the best transit routes of delivery of goods, including the Trans-Siberian railway and the Arctic route from the Pacific to Europe, Russian technology in many areas, the implementation of joint projects in science, industry and agriculture.
One of the objective reasons for the weak presence of Russia in the Asia-Pacific region is the lack of awareness of Russian political, economic and other interests of the processes in the Asia-Pacific region, about the economic and political situation of some countries in the region, about their attitudes toward Russia and the degree of their readiness for broad cooperation. Though researches in the given area are conducted, they can be wider and cover a larger range of researchers. This is due to the fact that:
-scientists, students and post-graduate students of universities are not sufficiently involved in applied research projects related to the Asia-Pacific region;
- lack of targeted communication between institutions, universities and other centers for the study of international relations in the Asia-Pacific region, including foreign scientific centers;
- the detachment of research activities from practical application value;
-lack of scientific personnel, when the old frames are reduced and young staff do not have the ability or motivation to promote scientific careers;
- there is no unifying center for the study of contemporary problems APR in the region.
At the same time, the demand for an objective science-based analyst of international relations in the Asia-Pacific region is high among both business structures and structures of making strategic decisions based on policy, security, and so international and regional issues.
The “Asia-Pacific International Relation Study Center” is called up to promote revitalization of scientific research on the study of international relations in the Asia-Pacific region.
