The concept of ensemble is based on Georgian traditions and values. It is led by the family of Potskhishvili, which established a long tradition of Georgian national dance. This is set of values… Old traditions, New Generation... Little Stars from Georgia Choreographer: David Potskhishvili Repetitor-Choreographer: Nino Khartvelishvili Tbilisi. In 1978, Gelodi Potskhishvili was permitted by the Ministry of Culture to assign this honourable name “Metekhi” to the Ensemble. The name “Metekhi” dates back from that period and in 1978 the ensemble was formed as a professional company with the name: the Georgian National Ballet “Metekhi”. Some period later the popularity of the Ensemble and the demand on right and professional art was grown so much that in 1990 Gelodi Potskhishvili felt responsible for founding a children choreographic ensemble as the demand was increasing more and more. Thus, it became necessary to grow own staff as Gelodi Potskhishvili’s style in Georgian choreography was quite different. Foundation of the National Children Ballet is not connected only to this historic fact; it is worth noting the tour of the Georgian National Ballet “Metekhi” in the United States of America in 1990-91 when Gelodi Potskhishvili was the first in the history of Georgian choreography who included several dances performed by 6 children into the concert program of the professional ensemble and made it the part of the show. It was highly appraised both by journalists and the world famous choreographers. The foundation of the Children Choreographic Ensemble is based on the words of the famous dancer Rudolf Nureyev said towards Gelodi Potskhishvili when the Georgian National Ballet “Metekhi” was on a tour in Atlantic City. Inspired Rudolf Nureyev: “It is the first time I have seen such skillful chorography performed by Georgian children with the highest quality. I want to thank Gelodi Potskhishvili and the team of the choreographers who have prepared these little stars so professionally”. After this pleasant choreographic event the National Children Ballet danced on leading stages in various countries and concert halls both with its own program and with the professional ensemble – the Georgian National Ballet “METEKHI”. The Ensemble is the laureate and honorable member of a number of international festivals all over the world. Today Potskhishvili National Children Ballet is called “Little Stars” by people as preparation of children for concerts equals to the high-level profession viewpoint in Georgian and world choreographic sphere. The National Children Ballet “Little Stars” and its creative work have become an etalon and an innovator in Georgian choreography as well as in the world children choreographic sphere since the date of its foundation. Gelodi Potskhishvili’s son, the honoured artist and choreographer David Potskhishvili, has played a great role in creation and development of the Ensemble. David is a director and art director of the National Children Ballet “Little Stars”. David Potskhishvili’s wife, Mrs. Nino Katvelishvili, is a choreographer. Potskhishvili National Children Ballet “Little Stars” has been carrying out its activity in the world choreographic area since 1990 and during this period it has passed a very interesting creative path. The National Children Ballet has grown up a lot of dancers of international level who nowadays perform in leading ballets and folk ensembles.
